Test Code: 1005 | URINALYSIS, COMPLETE |
2
Performing Lab: | SMA Specialty Medical Lab |
3
Clinical Significance: | Dipstick urinalysis is important in accessing the chemical constituents in the urine and the relationship to various disease states. Microscopic examination helps to detect the presence of cells and other formed elements. |
4
Reference Ranges: | See individual test components |
5
Preferred Specimen: | 8 mL urine submitted in yellow/red swirl-topped conical transport tube with preservative. Unpreserved urine can be accepted from pediatric patients only. Please indicate that the sample is from pediatric patient. Label the sample appropriately. |
6
Note: | The yellow/red swirl-top tube cannot be used or collection and transport of the specimens for urine culture. **This order code does not include reflex to culture** If reflex to culture is desired, please order test 'Urinalysis complete with reflex to culture'. If urine culture test was ordered separately, please submit separate sample collected in Vacutainer® gray-top urine culture transport tube with preservative. |
7
Collection instructions: | Encourage mid stream samples to minimize contamination and improve accuracy. |
8
Minimum Volume: | 5 mL |
9
Specimen Container: | Yellow/red swirl-topped conical transport tube with preservative; steril urine cup (pediatric samples) |
