 Clinical Significance: Opiate addiction is a major public health issue in USA and the methadone treatment and maintenance programs, although controversial, have been shown to be effective in reducing the number of opiate addicts. Methadone is a synthetic opiate agonist that metabolizes by mono and di- N-methylation to form its main metabolite, e-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl-3,3-diphenylpyrrolidine (EDDP) and then N-demethylates to its secondary metabolite, 2-ethyl-5-methyl-3,3-diphenylpyrroline (EMDP). Methadone possesses similar pharmacologic properties to heroin and morphine, but does not cause euphoria or intoxication with stable dosing. Measuring EDDP for compliance is a preference in the methadone treatment program because individuals occasionally spike their own urine with methadone as a diversion, so as to cause the urine to test positive on methadone assay, when the patient has not ingested the drug. A specific test for the metabolite, EDDP, would be negative.

Test Description BreastDx Clear is a multi-gene test that analyzes 16 breast cancer susceptibility genes. Although all women have some risk of developing breast and/or ovarian cancer at some point in their lives, having a mutation in one of the breast cancer susceptibility genes increases this risk. Men who have a mutation in one of the breast cancer susceptibility genes have an increased risk of breast, prostate, pancreatic, gastric and other cancer types.
